Plan The Evening

Family birthday vs date night, parking on Dufferin, GO/TTC. Picked up over nine years of watching people arrive.

A Toronto street in evening light with low traffic
Dufferin, around 6 pm on a weekday. Give yourself a little buffer if you're coming north from Bloor — the stretch from Dupont up tightens at rush.

Family birthday — the "kids first" version

If this is a seventh-birthday booking, book the 5:00 pm show on Saturday or Sunday. The late shows (8 pm) run past most kids' bedtimes and you'll have a tired, grumpy table by dessert. Pick a cheering section away from the main drum line (sections 1 and 6 are quieter than the middle sections 3 and 4). Order the kid plate — the same chicken but a smaller portion and apple juice instead of soda.

Date night — the "quiet corner" version

Pick a weeknight 7:30 pm show (Tuesday or Wednesday), and ask for seats on the upper row of section 2 or 5. You're far enough from the drum line to talk at a reasonable volume between acts. Vegetarian still isn't great — if your partner is strict, consider eating something small before.

Nothing on this planet makes a date more romantic than fighting a greasy chicken leg with your fingers. Just lean into it.

Parking on Dufferin

The castle has its own lot wrapping behind the building, free with your e-ticket. It fills up for the 5 pm show about 45 minutes before start. If it's full, the lot across Castlefield behind the plaza is usually okay. Do not park on the side streets off Dufferin — they are permit-only Monday to Friday evenings and the City will ticket you.

GO and TTC

TTC: Lawrence West station on Line 1, then the 52 Lawrence West bus east two stops, or walk 15 minutes south down Dufferin. Safe at all hours but the walk is uphill coming back.

GO Transit: No GO station close enough to walk. If you're coming from Mississauga or further, Union Station + Line 1 to Lawrence West is faster than driving on a Saturday evening.

Rideshare: Uber/Lyft drop at the Dufferin gate. Pickup after the show is slow (everyone's calling at once) — walk a block north to Castlefield and the pin comes faster.

What to wear. Casual. Nobody dresses up. You'll be reaching across a wooden trestle table for garlic bread — jeans and a sweater is the mode.
